AI platform compares thousands of pages of project documentation against owner standards and produces source-linked findings in minutes
SAN FRANCISCO, August 22, 2026 — Core Runway Inc. today announced a major expansion of its construction intelligence platform, enabling universities, healthcare systems and other institutional building owners to automatically review project specifications against their own internal design standards.
Large institutional owners frequently maintain hundreds or thousands of pages of design requirements covering architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, laboratory, material and operational standards. Ensuring that those requirements are consistently reflected in every new project has traditionally required extensive manual review.
Core Runway uses AI to compare the owner's standards directly against project documentation and identify potential non-compliance, partial compliance and areas requiring human review. Every finding is linked back to the relevant source material, allowing qualified reviewers to verify the result and make the final decision.
In a recent project-scale test, Core Runway compared a 2,800-page construction specification against approximately 1,000 pages of institutional design standards in about 15 minutes, identifying potential compliance issues and providing source-linked evidence for each finding.
“Institutions invest enormous effort creating design standards, but the real challenge is applying them consistently across every project,” said John Burton, CEO and co-founder of Core Runway. “AI makes it possible to perform that comparison at a scale that simply isn't practical manually.”
The platform also captures reviewer decisions, interpretations and approved exceptions. Over time, those decisions can become part of the organization's reusable institutional knowledge rather than remaining in individual emails, project folders or the experience of individual staff members.
Core Runway's broader platform can apply the same standards throughout the construction lifecycle, from design specifications and drawings through product submittals and supporting manufacturer documentation.
The company is initially targeting organizations with significant capital construction programs, including universities, healthcare systems and other multi-building institutional owners.
